Mark & Denise Ost
Mark and Denise have been on the mission field together for just over 40 years.
Mark was raised as an “M.K.” in Mexico where his parents faithfully served the Lord for many years. He received effective on-the-job training during his growing up years, and his parents’ lifestyle and example encouraged him in his desire to be in full-time service.
In 1973, he left home to attend Bible school in Seattle WA. Fully intending to return to Mexico for a lifetime career of missions there, in November of 1974, Mark felt an unexpected – but clear – call to the country of France. After graduation in 1977, he left Seattle for Mexico.
Mark and Denise were married in 1978 and then lived in Mexico City, working with young people and where Mark pastored one of the “Fath, Hope and Love” centers. At the end of three years, they knew it was God’s timing to go to France, and so, with their 16-month old son Bryan, they arrived in Paris in September, 1981. After nine months of language study, they started a Bible study in their apartment, and in 1984, were able to purchase the building, right in Paris, that is now the Faith, Hope and Love Church – “Eglise Foi, Espérance et Amour”.
In addition to their firstborn, the Osts have been blessed with five daughters: Monique, Esther, Ruby, Rachael and Sarah, and another son, Michael. Five are now married and all seven children love the Lord, serving him and the Church in one way or another.
Mark’s vision has been that of pastoring and teaching, with the goal of training pastoral teams to reach the 32,000+ cities, towns and villages with no evangelical witness. At this present time, the Paris church has recently restored and re-established a church in the coastal city of Dieppe (about three hours north) where six times a month, we travel to encourage and help rebuild lives battered by discouragement.
Also, most every Sunday for the last 7 years Mark or a layman from our church goes to a French-speaking group of a large Chinese-language church 15-minutes away from ours to share from God’s Word; Mark oversees that French-speaking group in a pastoral capacity. A couple of our “home-grown” leaders have prepared 200 for baptism in the last six years – harvest-time in this large city of 12-million people, that comprises well over 100 cultures and peoples from diverse backgrounds.
Shortly after we finished the work on the new zoning requirements, including asbestos removal and updating the outdated electricity layout on our church building in 2015, we were one of the churches that was a channel for sending Rapid Response “prayer and compassion teams” into the streets of Paris just days after the terrorist’s attacks that left 130 people dead in downtown Paris, just 20-minutes from us. Most certainly the Lord planted us at our inner-city Paris address 35 years ago for such a time as this.
With the 130-member strong church we are leading in Paris, we believe that the Lord is raising up future pastors and teachers to carry on the work and vision He has laid on our hearts. We appreciate your prayers and support, as we continue to Reach Out as His Hand Extended to the broken-hearted and those beaten down by sin and humanism, in this needy country of France.
