Don’t Hold Back! Don’t Be Afraid! - Devotional
Enlarge the place of your tent, stretch your tent curtains wide, do not hold back; lengthen your cords, strengthen your stakes. For you will spread out to the right and to the left; your descendants will dispossess nations and settle in their desolate cities. Do not be afraid; you will not suffer shame. Do not fear disgrace; you will not be humiliated. You will forget the shame of your youth and remember no more the reproach of your widowhood. For your Maker is your Husband—the Lord Almighty is His Name—the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; He is called the God of all the earth.
Isaiah 54:2, 3, NIV
After being widowed, a person can sometimes feel like their own life is over. Or they may feel that their life is smaller than it used to be when they were partners with their spouse. They may feel that they have lost significance.
One of the widows in our grief support group was a missionary alongside her husband. After her husband died, she realized that not only were they missionaries together, but she had been personally called by God to missions. She continues to travel, preach, distribute Bibles, and comfort hundreds of widows.
You may not be called to international ministry, but YOU are still here for a reason. Whatever your calling, after you recover from grief, don’t hold back. Find out what God has for you and do it! And, as Isaiah says, do it BIG!
