Go and Tell

My dear widowed friend,

I wanted to talk to you tonight about one of the characters in the Easter story, Mary Magdalene.

Jesus had cast seven demons out of Mary Magdalene, and she became one of His followers. In Luke 8:1-3 it says, “Soon afterward, Jesus began a tour of the nearby towns and villages, preaching and announcing the Good News about the Kingdom of God.”

He took His 12 disciples with Him along with some women He had healed and from whom He had cast out evil spirits. Among them was Mary Magdalene, from whom He had cast out seven demons, Joanna the wife of Chuza, Herod’s business manager, and Suzanna, and many others who were contributing their own resources to support Jesus and His disciples.

Mary Magdalene was among the women who followed Jesus and were supporting Him and his disciples out of her resources. We see Mary Magdalene at the cross when Jesus died, we see her again at Jesus’ tomb when He was being buried, and then she comes on Easter morning and discovers that Jesus is no longer in the tomb where He was buried. She is overcome with grief.

As she leaves to go back to her home, she runs into a person, a man in the garden, and she doesn’t even recognize Him—until He calls her by name. Jesus said, “Mary”. Immediately, she knew Who He was, and she called Him, “Teacher”.

This Teacher is calling you by name, too. He has something for you to do. He told Mary, “Go and tell the others what you have just seen.”

I want to encourage you to go and tell others what Jesus has done for you. It will change your life—and theirs!
