Our Plans, God’s Detours
I want to thank all of you who have been praying for and donating to the ministry of The Widows Project. My Co-Director Linda and I have been preparing to travel to Uganda to minister to 300 women at a widows’ conference. It has been a joy to work with Pastor Stuart Davids and Pastor Sarah Kaweesa, under the direction of Pastor Steven Mayanja, who is the founder of World Outreach Ministry Foundation (WOMF).
In the process of our preparations, however, as many of you know, I had a family emergency, and my son was urgently hospitalized. It has become clear that I am needed here as he is undergoing his recovery process.
To our delight, however, Pastor Stuart and Pastor Sarah are continuing with plans to go ahead with this first widows’ conference, since all these women were coming from outlying villages and towns to the Seguku Worship Center in Kampala. We are pleased that The Widows Project will still be able to provide some financial support for this conference as they are hosting these 300 widows for three days.
Also, Linda and I will be creating some video greetings to send to encourage the widows there. While we are disappointed to not go at this time, we are very encouraged that, Lord willing, we will plan to go next year. By that time, this ministry to the widows will be established and we will be able to go and encourage them to continue on! So, thank you for all your donations and prayers. We will reserve these funds for next year, Lord willing, should we be able to go as expected.
In the meantime, we continue with the ministry of The Widows Project. As you know, we have developed what we call our Care Package, which is three books for either widowed men or women, so that churches can have the materials they need to start ministries to widowed people. We are also in the process of translating these books into Spanish. We are still in need of funds for publishing these Spanish books, so if the Lord puts it on your heart, your contributions will go to a wonderful cause! Our co-laborer in the in the ministry to the grieving, missionary RuthAnne Ost Martinez, is reaching thousands of people all over many Latin American countries. She will be using our resources, once they are translated into Spanish, to reach widowed men and women.
Also, we are in the process of recording video lessons for these three books so that churches can easily play the video, discuss the chapter for the week, and bring hope and healing to widowed men and women. So, we praise God for what He is doing through the ministry of The Widows Project.
Another thing that's very much on our hearts is what we call HeartWork, which is a method using timeline therapy and inner healing prayer to focus on helping widowed men and women heal from the actual traumatic events surrounding the passing of their loved one. We find this method to be very effective and life changing.
So, even though we are experiencing a temporary detour right now, we are moving full speed ahead with the work of The Widows Project! We covet your prayers and, if the Lord puts it on your heart, continued financial donations because that's how we are able to do what we do!
God bless you,
Mary Beth Woll and Linda Smith
